Management

Dorking Almshouses Management

Trustees

The overall management of The Dorking Charity is vested in a Board of Trustees, who meet on a quarterly basis and at other times to discuss any urgent matters.  There are eleven Trustees consisting of:-

One ex-officio Trustee – being the incumbent Vicar of St Martin’s Church, Dorking

Six co-opted Trustees who are persons residing or carrying out business in Dorking and who serve for a period of five years

One Trustee appointed by Holmwood Parish Council

Three Nominated Trustees each appointed by Mole Valley District Council for a period of four years

Day-to-day administration is carried out by the Clerk to the Trustees and the Warden under the direction and guidance of the Trustees.  The Trustees meet quarterly, or as necessary, to receive reports on the welfare of the Residents, the state of the buildings and the financial position of the Charity and to agree any actions arising.

Trustee Committees

There are three committees - Residents, Buildings and Finance - which are responsible for detailed management and raising issues with the Board of Trustees.

Warden

There is a resident Warden, Sergio Caetano, who replaced Mrs Shirley Lambert in July 2018. His main duties are to act as a good neighbour to each of the Residents and to look after the building.   In an emergency, it is the Warden’s job to summon relatives or to call a doctor or other professional help that may be necessary.

Clerk

The Clerk's duties include managing the Trustee meetings and the Charity's accounts. Anyone interested in applying for residency at the Almshouses should contact the Clerk - Trevor Haylett - at drkcharity@gmail.com.  Application forms and more information on residency terms are available through this link.
